Simply mix 50 g of premix (5 scoops) to every 1 liter of hot distilled water. Makes approximately 100 standard petri dishes per package.

Description

Malt Extract Agar Premix makes working with agar a breeze. Comes in a convenient 100 g size with easy to follow MEA Instructions. Each bag includes a scoop (approximately 10 grams) to make measuring quick and consistent.

Pouring your own agar is a great way to save money, and advance your mycology endeavors. Simply add 50 grams (5 scoops) per 1 liter of hot, distilled water. Stir thoroughly until homogenized. Pressure cook in an autoclavable container at 15 psi for 15 minutes.

Allow mix to cool to about 50-55°C, and pour into petri dishes. Pour plates in a sterile environment such as in front of a laminar flow hood or in a still air box. Allow agar plates to cool to room temperature, and use or store in a clean space.

This Malt Extract Agar (MEA) recipe follows the FDA’s Bacteriological Analytical Manual (BAM), specifically formulation M93 as listed in their laboratory methods. The laboratory method remains unchanged, including suggested preparation. This formulation uses a 3:2 ratio of light malt extract to agar, in accordance with BAM Media M93.

Included measuring spoon conveniently measures 10 grams per level scoop of Agar Premix. Recipe can be scaled up or down as needed. For example, use 1 scoop (10 g) for every 200 ml of distilled water.
